ECE Colloquium 2008
Introduction to RFID
By
Abstract
Radio Frequency
Identification (RFID) technology was originally developed for automated
identification of aircrafts and ships as a secondary radar application.
RFID
is an automatic identification method, relying on storing and remotely
retrieving data using devices called RFID tags or transponders. RFID is a subset
of the Automatic Identification Data Collection (AIDC) industry.
An RFID tag is an object that can be attached to or incorporated into a product,
animal, or person for the purpose of identification using radio waves.
Chip-based RFID tags contain silicon chips and antennas. RFID systems allow
automatic data collection, data analysis, and data utilization. This
presentation will introduce the concepts of RFID systems and their applications.
