Formula SAE Multifunction Display
by
Scott Ogrin and Mark Tarvin
Advisor: Steve Gutschlag
Co-advisors: Dr. Winfred Anakwa and Dr. Donald Schertz

The purpose of this project is to design a digital dashboard for the Mechanical Engineering Department's Formula SAE car. System inputs consist of the analog inputs to the existing tachometer, oil pressure, and temperature gauges. Ultimately, the SAE team would like to add a fourth input signal from a transmission gear sensor. A Motorola 68HC08AZ32 microcontroller and supporting integrated circuit (IC) chips will be utilized to generate the desired outputs. The 68HC08 will be interfaced with an electroluminescent display (ELD). To configure the system, the user will enter data on a twelve-key numeric keypad that will also be interfaced with the microcontroller.
