Motion Capture

Motion capture is a technique where sensors are attached to a human subject, and the subject's motion is then tracked by a computer. The resulting data is then used to animate a polygonal model. Since the motion information is taken directly from an actual person, the polygonal model will accurately mimic the human model. 

This project involves the use of relatively inexpensive ultrasonic transducers to provide position information. The ultrasonic transmitters and their support circuitry are worn by the subject. Each transmitter emits a short 40kHz ping at a regular interval. These pings are received by a series of fixed location base stations, which record the time of the signal's arrival. These times are then transmitted serially to a PC, where a series of equations is solved to derive the exact position of each transmitter.
