A 2.4 GHz Transmit/Receive Module for Wireless Communications

Wireless communication systems are finding increasing applications for transmission and reception of data, video and voice. A typical microwave personal communication transceiver consists of a Gallium Arsenide (GaAs) Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuit (MMIC). The antenna is switched between the transmitter and the receiver by means of an active switch. In this project, a Transmit/Receive Module based on the Distributed Amplifier concept is proposed to replace the active switch in the transceiver. The module permits simultaneous transmission and reception of signals using a single antenna. A 2.4 GHz Transmit/Receive Module was designed, fabricated and tested. The module provides high isolation between the transmitter and the receiver. The module was fabricated on a microwave circuit board and using GaAs FETS as the active devices.
