8051 Modular Computer Board
by Josh Siegle Advisor: Dr. Donald R. Schertz The gray modular computers in Jobst 243 were built in the late 70's
by Professor Robert G. Thompson and Dr. D. R. Schertz. Designed around
the 8080 microprocessor, they are no longer up to date. Last year Clark
and Schroeder added a 68HC11 capability. This project further extends the
usefulness of the system with a 8051 microcontroller based board. Together,
the 68HC11 and 8051 boards provide the tools necessary to develop software
for the microprocessor related courses in the EE/EET curriculum. The capabilities
of the 8051 modular computer exceed those of the 8051 In-Circuit Emulators
already in the lab. All pins on the processor are available to the programmer,
allowing for interrupt and timer routines. All the existing I/0 devices,
ranging from A-D, D-A converters to a video board, are available for the
8051 modular computer, making it an excellent programming tool for future
students.
