Safe Air Monitor
by Eric Robb, "Power Subsystem" Michael Farquhar, "Sensor Subsystem" Jeff Waltersdorf, "Microprocessor Subsystem" Advisors: Dr. James Sennott and B. D. Huggins Individuals entering dangerous environments such as manure storage tanks
and sewers need to be concerned with the quality of the air around them.
Making a portable, inexpensive, reliable monitor for air quality would
greatly increase the safety of these workers. Monitoring the oxygen level
in the ambient air provides an effective way of detecting hazardous situations.
Utilizing a Teledyne Microfuel sensor to detect the amount of oxygen in
the atmosphere, this detection system features a microprocessor with simple
signal processing to increase the reaction speed of the alarm. Additionally,
to keep the device lightweight, a strict power management system is used
to provide portable, rechargeable power and an effective operating time
of the device.
