A Ball and Beam Control System
by John Bonini and Jeremy Ruck Advisor: Dr. W. Anakwa In many industrial control processes, the control of the precise position
of a valve, a cylinder, or any other mechanical linkage may be desired.
In order to gain experience in the construction and precise control of
physical plant systems, a laboratory scale model of a ball and beam balancing
system has been designed, built and analyzed. The system consists of a
ball, a beam which incorporates a position sensor, a servo motor and a
power amplifier. In this presentation, we will discuss the mathematical
model of the system, the hardware and different compensator designs.
