A compact, low cost, and durable computer controlled storage and interface
unit (CSIU) to operate in conjunction with a six-channel Global Positioning
System (GPS) receiver has been designed and constructed. The CSIU is designed
for locating any position on the surface of the earth with applications
from tracking vehicles to mapping land contours. The unit is controlled
by a single board DOS computer via a twelve key user keypad and display.
The CSIU and receiver is self contained and self powered for portable applications.
Testing was facilitated by developing and testing programs on a PC, which
were then downloaded onto the single board computer for execution.
