Multipurpose Modulator

Two methods of modulation were implemented - single side band (SSB) modulation
and quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK). These are implemented using a
Texas Instruments 32010 digital signal processor and a PC interface to
perform digital signal processing. The primary benefit of this modulator
design is its flexibility. Using one set of hardware, many types of modulation
schemes may be implemented. Since DSP is used, changing modulation types
involves only a change in software. A second feature of this system is
its use to implement signal processing techniques that are difficult to
accomplish with analog systems. For example, the SSB modulation uses a
hilbert transform to generate the modulation, which is very difficult using
analog hardware.
