FSK Amplitude Modulated Microwave for Remote Control

A system consisting of a transmitter and receiver was designed and constructed to relay digital coded information via a 5.5 GHz amplitude modulated microwave signal. The choice of microwave operating frequency and the use of microstrip patch antennas were chosen to keep the hardware small and portable as well as inexpensive. A microcomputer controls an FSK modulator which is used to generate an FSK signal which amplitude modulates a microwave carrier. The received signal is demodulated and will turn on the specified (coded) light. The design of these components, as well as test procedures and the system's ability to relay digital coded information will be discussed.
