Microprocessor-based Robotic System
by Mike Moses Jr. and Scott Myers This project consists of designing, building, and operating a robotic
device which will move in its environment by its own power. The hardware
section consists of computer circuitry using an eight-bit microprocessor
as the "brains" of the system. Also included in the hardware section are
the sonar guidance and motor control systems. The robotic system uses a
twelve volt motorcycle battery as its on board power supply which allows
the robot to move about in its environment for around four hours. The software
section consists of sub-routines which interface the computer circuitry
hardware with the two control systems. The sonar guidance subroutine determines
the placement of obstacles in the robot's environment and the computer
circuitry controls the wheel movement accordingly. Integration of these
two sections results in the creation of the robotic system.
